An ode to a perfect mother-in-law

My dear mother-in-law passed away today.  Mothers-in-law get a bad rap, especially in this case.  She treated me like her favorite son.  Actually that's how she left many people feeling...like they were her favorite person.  I know for sure that all six of her grandkids and one great-grandkid knew that they were her favorite.

She was raised in a small two room house in Albuquerque along with her 9 brothers and sisters.  Ten kids! In a tiny house! Five to a bed! That humble and loving upbringing is what made her what she is...was...an incredibly strong and loving woman.
She was married for over 60 years when her husband passed two years ago. In her last working years, she helped countless people in her job working for US senators and congressmen in New Mexico. But her masterpiece work was in the family that she raised.
She had so many friends in this world because she made friends so easily, even as she was waiting in line at the grocery store or at midnight at Target getting a present for one of her grandkids.  Many of her friends also felt like part of her family and are grieving her loss, but remembering her fondly.

We will miss her smile, her sense of humor, her strong opinions, her perfect wardrobe and perfect hair, but most of all we’ll miss the love she gave out with such abandon.

RIP OG Nana!
